Size I- 5.00mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Size H- 4.50mm crochet hook
Size G- 4.00mm crochet hook

STITCH GUIDE

ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), FLO- front loop only, RS – right side, WS- wrong side, rep- repeat, sk- skip, MC- main color, CC- contrasting color

NOTES
Beginning ch 1 does not count as a stitch


PATTERN

With I hook and MC- Ch 32

Row 1: sc in BLO of 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (RS). <31 sts>

Row 2: ch 1, turn, [sc, 2 dc] in same st, *sk 2 sts, [sc, 2 dc] in next st,* rep *-* until 3 sts remain, sk 2 sts, sc inlast st. <31 sts>

Row 3-25: Rep Row 2

Join CC

Row 26: ch 2 (counts as dc now and throughout the remainder of the pattern), turn, sk next st, working in the FLO *4 dc in next st, sk 3 sts,* rep from *-* across, putting 2 dc in last st. <31 sts>

Row 27: Turn, DO NOT CH, sc in each st across. <31 sts>

Switch to H hook

Row 28: ch 2, turn, dc in same st, *sk 3 sts, 4 dc in next st,* rep *-* to last 2 sts, sk next st, dc in last st (turning ch). <31 sts>

Row 29: Turn, DO NOT CH, sc in each st across. <31 sts>

Switch to G hook

Row 30: Rep Row 26 working through both loops

Row 31: Turn, DO NOT CH, sc in each st across. <31 sts>

Row 32: Rep Row 28

Row 33: Turn, DO NOT CH, sc in each st across. <31 sts>

Row 34: Turn, DO NOT CH, sk first st, sl st in next st, [sc, ch 1] in next 12 sts, [sc, ch 6] in next st, sk 1, [sc, ch 1] in next 12 sts, sc in next, sk 1, sl st in last st. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.

Edging:

Switch back to I hook

Turn work so you are working down the side of the flap. Fold the bottom up so that Row 2 meets Row 25. Sc in the side of the same st and evenly down the side of the flap and down the side of the folded portion,

Being sure you are working through both layers; Fasten off.

Rejoin CC on the opposite bottom corner (through Rows 12 and 13), ch 1 and sc evenly up the side, being sure you are working through both layers, and then continue to sc evenly up the side of the flap. Sl st in thefirst st of Row 34 and fasten off.

Wrist Strap (optional):

With MC and I hook

Ch 36, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each st across. Fasten off, leaving a tail about 8” long.

FINISHING

With front side of the clutch and RS of strap facing, sew the tail end of the strap to one of the upper corners of the MC underneath the flap (Photo A). With WS together, fold the opposite end of the strap over to form a loop. Sew in place (Photo B). Weave in all loose ends. Fold the flap down to determine the placement of the button before sewing it on.
