Crochet Baby Bear Hat and Crocs Sandals

Size 0- 3 months  / 3.5 inch sole
Bigger size changes in brackets for
4, 4.5 & 5 inch soles.

Materials- G hook, small amount WW yarn, yarn needle, 2 or 4
     buttons for trim.

Stitches used-
     sl st - slip stitch, sts - stitches, ch - chain, sc - single crochet,
     hdc - half-double crochet, dc - double crochet, 
     sc dec - single crochet decrease, dc dec - double
     crochet decrease


Sole
Rnd 1) Ch 10 [11,12,13], 2 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, sc in the next 2 chs, hdc in the next 3 chs,  dc in the next 2 [3,4,5] chs, 6 dc in the last ch, then working on the opposite side of starting ch, dc in the next 2 [3,4,5] chs, hdc in the next 3 chs, sc in the next 2 chs,  sc in the same ch as the 1st 2 sc of this round. Join with sl st in the 1st sc. Ch 1. (23,25,27,29 sts)
Rnd 2) 2 sc in the 1st st, sc in the next 8 [9,10,11] sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts,  sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc in the next 8 [9,10,11] sts. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. Ch 1. (28,30,32,34 sts)
Rnd 3)Sc in the 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st, sc in the next 9 [10,11,12] sts, 2hdc in each of the next 2 sts, sc in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in eachof the next 2 sts, sc in the next 9 [10,11,12] sts, 2 sc in the last st. Join with sl st to the 1st sc. Ch 1. (34,36,38,40 sts)
Sides
Rnd 4) Work in back loops only for this round!
Sc in 16 sts, hdc in the next 4 [6,8,10] sts, , sc in the last 14 sts. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc. Ch 1. (34,36,38,40 sts)
Rnd 5) Sc in the 1st 9 [10,11,12] sts, (ch 2, skip the next 2 sts, sc in the next 2 sts) 5 times, sc in the last 5 [6,7,8] sts. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc. (34,36,38,40 sts)   Fasten off!

 Fasten off just means to cut the yarn and tie off leaving about a two inch tail.  Then, weave in the ends the same way you would finish any crochet project.

Top

Round 6 says to join with a single crochet tot he 8th st to the left of joining.  I personally just joined the yarn using a slip stitch and then chained 1 and continued with the instructions as written.

Rnd 6) Join with a sc in the 8th [8th,8th,9th] st to the left of joining. Sc in the next 1 [2,3,3] st, 2 sc in the ch space, (sc dec over the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next ch space) 4 times, sc in the next 2 [3,4,4] sts, loosely ch 14 [16,18,18] and sl st to the 1st sc to join. Ch 1. (18,20,22,22 sc, 14,16,18,18 chs)

 This is how the sandal should look after you complete round 6.

Rnd 7) Sc in the1st 2 [3,4,4] sts, dc dec 7 times, sc in the next 2 [3,4,4]sts, in one loop only sc in each ch around. Join with sl st to 1st sc. Ch 1. (25,29,33,33 sts)
Rnd 8) Sc in 1 [2,1,1] st, sc dec 2 [2,3,3] times, sc in the next st, sc dec 2 [2,3,3] times, sc in the next 1 [2,1,1 st, loosly sl st in the next 14 [16,18,18] sts,. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc. Fasten off! (7,9,9,9sc, 14,16,18,18 slst)
Thicker sole recommended for bigger sizes!
For thicker sole repeat rnds 1-3 and holding this piece against bottom of shoe, matching up stitches, slip st through both loops of this piece and leftover loops around bottom of shoe.
Weave in ends and sew on buttons as shown in pictures.

Crochet Newborn Bear Hat
Materials:
I used Bernat Softee baby yarn which has a weight of 3 (light/sport yarn)
Size G crochet hook.
Yarn needle 

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet 
dc = double crochet 

Round 1:  Ch 4, 11 dc in 4th chain from hook. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. 12 dc total
Round 2:  Ch 3, dc in same stitch as ch 3, 2 dc in each stitch around. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. 24 dc total
Round 3:  Ch 3, dc in same stitch as ch 3, 1 dc in next stitch, *2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in following stitch* repeat from * to * around and join with a sl st to top of ch 3. 36 dc total
Rounds 4 - 10:  Ch 3, dc in next stitch and in each stitch around. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. 36 dc total
Round 11:  Ch 1, sc in next stitch and in each stitch around. Sl st to top of ch 1 to join. 36 sc total
Round 12 - 14:  Ch 1, sc in back loop of next stitch and in the back loop of each stitch around.  Sl st to top of ch 1 to join.  36.  Tie off.

Ears (Make 2)
Round 1:  Ch 4, 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join.  12 dc total
Round 2:  Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as ch 2, 2 hdc in next stitch and in each stitch around. 24 hdc total
Round 3:  Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as ch 2, 1 hdc in next stitch, *2 hdc in next stitch, 1 hdc in following stitch*  repeat from * to * around and join with a sl st to top of ch 2.  36 hdc total

Tie off
Fold the circle in half so that you have a half moon shape.  Join yarn with a sc through both thicknesses at the right corner of the half moon.  Continue to sc through both thicknesses around the top arch of the ear.  Sl st and tie off when you reach the left corner of the ear leaving a 6" tail.
Using the 6" tail and a yarn needle, sew the ear to the top side of the hat.  Position ears approximately 1" apart.
